Technical Information & Quality Assurance

All fasteners are subjected to routine sample test procedures at each key stage of manufacture and also on completion. A pre-determined number of parts per batch are checked for dimensional accuracy against their relative drawing and then destructively tested to ensure that the weld is to the required standard (Fig. 1).

A tensile force is applied and recorded at intervals of baseplate distortion (eg. 0.5mm elongation) and then a final pull-off value is taken. A batch is passed only if a consistant weld integrity rate results, as per our strict criteria.

Although values vary, depending on the fastener size, the typical recommended torque value on a mid-range M1 (for example) is in the region of 13Nm and the tensile strength (at 0.50mm elongation) is approximately 4.50kN. Tolerences on all of our fasteners are +/-0.25mm (general) and 1.00mm on stud length.

Applications for Rotaloc bonding fasteners

Rotaloc bonding fasteners are now an integral item in many composite assemblies and the existing and potential composite manufacturers that use them are growing. A greater number of advantages are being found in composite material use as designers and manufacturers look at innovative alternatives over more traditional methods. Practically any composite assembly or sub-assembly that is not permanently bonded into place could potentially employ our fasteners.

The Rotaloc part number system

Rotaloc uses its own unique part number identification system which allows us to determine which part number is relevant to your requirements and to match it to our existing range. What might appear at first to be a string of random letters and figures is in fact a logical system combining certain elements and dimensions to produce a very specific part number.
