the system explained in detail - material requirements

Our standard range is split into two versions based on material composition:

Mild Steel - all our Mild Steel items are Zinc plated and passivated to BS EN 12329, with the standard plating thickness being between 8 and 16 microns (0.008-0.016mm).

Stainless Steel - this material is 316 grade and is supplied with a clean finish.

material suitability
If the fasteners which you wish to use are not expected to be subjected to extreme environmental conditions, for example a marine environment, then the more economical Mild Steel range may be suitable. However, for salt water and other more testing environments, where the atmosphere has a tendency to be more corrosive than usual, the Stainless Steel range should be considered.

material identification
Visual identity of Mild Steel and Stainless Steel parts is relatively straightforward since the colours of each are quite distinguishable from each other, as can be seen below. In all other respects however, including weight, tensile strength, torque resistance, tolerances, etc. the two ranges are very similar.
